How English food is different from the food in your country?
I'm writing as a Italian food lover. My TOP dishes are LASAGNA CARBONARA, a well-cooked one, and RAVIOLI. One is a well known consummate beauty dish for dégoûtant people around the world. The other one is one of the most exquisite pasta from Italy but do not to be fooled by appearances while the first one can be pre-made the latter HAVE that touche spéciale whose flavor is unmissable. Between this lines you can also be healthier cooking with vegetables (spinach, aubergine or fish). Most of the people think about that Lasagna's slices pre-made with baked meat and bechamel sauce, for instance. The same with Ravioli's filling. But if you are a person without prejudices... Come on! Don't despair anymore! Here you'll find new inspiring recipes, exotic ones. In England there's plenty of tag people tagged as Dairy Free / Vegan / Vegetarian / Veggie. Enough for everyone.
What is English food really like nowadays?
This is a tricky question to answer. English cookery and bakery has been open to foreign ingredients for eight centuries. If you move around England you can find a lot of pubs where "traditional meals" as Curry Chicken (coming from India) are served. Most well-sold food in England is a hot dish consisting of fried fish in batter served in every inn you find on your way home. It's not the standout fave it once was but good old fish and chips remains a popular choice of that mainstream deadly sin (Sloth) that ravages our thoughts: "I don't have any food ready at home so, why not?". Also, you can find Mashed Potatoes (a kind of purée), Sunday Roast (tradicional British meal), Full English Breakfast (consisiting in bacon, sausages, eggs, baked beans, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns and black puddings), Bubble and Squaek (shallow-fried left over vegetables), Cornish Pasties (baked), Wellington Beef (fillet steak coated), Toad in the Hole (hearty dish full of sausages), Bangers and Mash (traditional British sausages) and so on in every proper kitchen. XOXO
Well, during the time I've been living in Battle for now I have to say that I'm falling in love with English desserts, specially those ones that are made by Bernard, Daniela and Lesly. If I had to choose one I'd say this veggie traditional British pudding that brings together a thick breadcrumb cake custard, raspberry jam and a fluffy crown of meringue. It’s quite easy to made it. I also love Yorkshire puddings (coming from Burgundy) because is made batter consisting of eggs, flour and milk/water. But don't take the eggs into account. It's a secret. After all the one thing you need for this is a great base, a powerful touch of LOVE and turn custards into an almost cake-like texture, with the jam adding a sweet sharpness. You can expect to unexpected from a desserts like this. Enjoy!
